Spontaneous post-work and school beach walk to blow the cobwebs away means only one thing – fish and chips for tea!
Although it seems a gluten free nightmare (and it is in majority of places), we’re lucky enough to have No 1 Fish and Chip shop pretty much on our doorstep. Not only does it “do the best fish and chips” (a high accolade coming from my hubbie) but they do awesome gluten free fish and chips with great care over avoiding cross contamination.
The gluten free fish is fried, fresh to order, in the restaurant kitchen and then held in its own pan till the whole order is ready. Then served using tongs that are kept seperate. The chips are fried in their dedicated fryer to ensure they’re also totally gluten free. They even have gluten free vinegar!
Today, wanting the (slightly) healthier option, I ordered just the fish with a side order of mushy peas. As I’ve not had the peas before I did check about any allergens – the helpful lady serving me checked a clear, but detailed allergen folder for me. They were fine for me to have.
The fish and peas were so tasty – perfectly cooked and none of the over-greasy after taste you can get from takeaway F&C. Perfect end to the day.
No1 Cromer is our family’s number one for gluten-free and ‘normal’ fish and chips! Well worth a visit if you’re on the Norfolk coast.
